Emmy’s 2022 RECAP

I have always loved television. It is truly one of the greatest inventions of all time. On Monday, September 12, the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards aired on NBC. I was seated and rooting for all my favorite actors and shows. Overall, the broadcast was decent. Kenan Thompson was the host. I’ve been watching Kenan on TV since his Nickelodeon days, so I was happy he got this opportunity. One big miss was the jokes. They were mostly lame. I understand that no one wanted to get slapped like what happened at the Oscars this year. I get it.

The biggest winner of the night was the HBO/HBO Max limited series, The White Lotus. The show took home awards for: best limited series, best writing for a limited series, best supporting actress in a limited series, best supporting actor in a limited series, and best directing for a limited series. Succession, also an HBO/HBO Max series, took home awards for: best drama series and best supporting actor in a drama. Ted Lasso, an AppleTV series, took home awards for: best comedy actor, best comedy series, and best supporting actor in a comedy. Pop/Rap singer Lizzo took home her first Emmy for her variety series Watch Out for the Big Girls.

My favorite wins of the night went to Zendaya, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Quinta Brunson. Zendaya made history as the youngest to win two Emmys for acting as she took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. Both Emmys are a result of her phenomenal performance as Ruby “Rue” Bennett in the HBO/HBO Max hit Euphoria. If you haven’t watched Euphoria yet, I encourage you to go watch it.

Sheryl Lee Ralph won her very first Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role in the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary. Her acceptance speech was AMAZING!!!!! I’ll link it below. Sheryl Lee Ralph has been in this industry for a long time, so I was happy that she got the award.

Last but not least, Quinta Brunson. She won her first Emmy for writing in a Comedy Series for her show Abbott Elementary. Quinta is the writer, producer, and star of the series. Abbott Elementary is so cute and funny and definitely something we need right now. Quinta really went from YouTube to the Emmys. What a journey!!

This year’s Emmys went well. I’m glad the people I was rooting for took home awards. I’m excited for the next seasons of Euphoria and Abbott Elementary. TV is in good hands.
