New Year, Improved Me

I have never believed in making New Year’s resolutions. The clock striking 12 and going into a new year does not mean I wake up to a whole new me. It does not mean that I am going to drastically change in the span of 24 hours. Change takes time. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is hard. I did not make resolutions when the date turned to 2019, however, I did consider making some changes. I knew I wanted to focus on my mental health, so I downloaded two mood tracking apps, Pacifica & Woebot. Both apps help users track their moods and learn how to respond to changes in their mood. Pacifica has a free version and subscription. Woebot is completely free. So far, I have enjoyed using both apps. I have always known I need therapy, but I cannot afford it so these apps really help.

Exercising has never really been a big issue for me as I walk often and I ride my bike when I can. Last year, I made sure to ride once a month at the least. I hope to ride more this year. So far this year, I have yet to get a ride in, but I hope to be able to go on a ride before the month is out. I bought the bike with the intent to commute to work, but I did not do that last year, so I hope to be able to do it this year, even if its only during the spring or summer.

When I committed to reading more back in late 2016, I have not stopped. In 2017 I read a total of 34 books and surpassed my goal of 15 books. Last year I read 21 books, but I did not meet the goal of 25. I did not set a Goodreads goal for this year, but I intend to read as many books as possible. My first book of the year is Becoming by Michelle Obama. The book is long, but I am getting through it. My next read will be Gabrielle Union’s memoir.

I do not make new years resolutions because I think they are pointless, but I have committed to changing some things around. I have also began looking at astrology. I found out that the daily horoscopes that are present online, hold no relevance because it is not based on your exact birth time, place, & year. A natal birth chart would be better. So I did a natal birth chart, and found out some interesting stuff. The chart is long and it does take some searching to understand the chart, but the information is out there.

So far, this month has been good. I have committed to making some changes and I hope things continue to go well.

    1. The most important goal I am working on this year is my mental health. As I stated in my post, I cannot currently afford therapy, so I am using mood tracking apps at the moment to help with this process.
