Life Update: Pursuing New Interests

I am hitting a wall, so I made the tentative decision to pivot. Work has become repetitive, and I am burned out. This feeling led me to return to a hobby I had picked up a few years ago, Python programming. I’ve been refreshing my knowledge on the subject and that led me to the emerging field of cybersecurity. I started following some cybersecurity/tech people on social media and I fixed my LinkedIn and GitHub. I went to my local community college to see what continuing education courses they offered related to tech. They had a course, but it ended up getting cancelled because no one else signed up. They will offer the course next semester though.

In the meantime, one of the tech social media accounts I follow, posted some super cool opportunities for folks getting into tech and I signed up for a WHOLE BUNCH of stuff. There were free courses, some apprenticeship opportunities, some newsletters, and other things. Currently I am taking a Coursera class on cybersecurity, I am going through ISC2’s Certified in Cybersecurity self-paced class, and I am regularly checking out r/cybersecurity and r/techcareers on Reddit.

As I dive deeper into this new adventure, I continue putting in job applications not only in tech specifically, but everywhere. I don’t want to become bitter in my current job, so I am finding other things to focus on. Whether I decide to go full throttle into a tech career or not, I am looking forward to learning all I can about this subject.

I still go skateboarding and play pickleball while it is still warm outside. I’m still reading books too. As these last few months of 2023 tick down, I will continue to focus on my personal life and new pursuits.
